news and latest gallery

The latest gallery contains images from a couple of recent trips to Dorset, in June and August 2008.  The pictures concentrate on two areas: most of the shots were taken in the Jurassic Coast area around Kimmeridge, but there is also a small number of pictures taken in the Studland Bay area.  Although I've been to this part of Dorset in the past, I had never actually visited Kimmeridge Bay before.  But now that I've discovered it, I'll certainly be returning in the very near future.

New for July 2008... a guestbook feature has been added to the site, allowing you to post comments against individual photographs.

Coming soon... In September 2008 I spent some time on the Knoydart Peninsula on the west coast of Scotland, so I'll be adding some shots from that trip in autumn 2008.

website layout

The emphasis on the website is on showing pictures, and these are accessed via the gallery page.  From that page you will see a list, on the left hand side, of the set of galleries currently available.  Individual pictures can be viewed by clicking on the corresponding square thumbnail image on the right hand side of the page.

Beyond the galleries, the site is very simple.  There is a page of favourite and useful links, a contact page, the home page, and the information page that you are looking at now.

the galleries

The "latest" gallery is the one you are taken to by default.  It contains my newest images, and is updated regularly (depending on my most recent trips).

The geographical regions covered include Cornwall and Devon, two counties with some breathtaking coastal scenery.  I wouldn't claim to provide a comprehensive photographic record of these places - these are just some of my favourite shots to date, and the expectation is always that these galleries will expand in the future.

Similarly, I have a gallery dedicated to Scotland - a real favourite location. Again, I am just scratching the surface as far as Scotland is concerned, and I'm looking forward to many more visits in order to expand this particular set.  Although closer to home, I am only just starting to develop a gallery dedicated to Wales.  And closer still, my "local" gallery contains shots taken in my home county of Hampshire.

As far as my foreign travels are concerned, these are currently represented in galleries dedicated to Nova Scotia and India.  Nova Scotia, one of Canada's Maritime Provinces, is a wonderful recent discovery for me.  The India gallery is relatively small (for such an enormous country!).  I really need to find the time to scan in more of my slides from this beautiful land.

The themed galleries include: "natural abstracts" - unusual and interesting abstract scenes from the natural world; "close-up on nature" - as the name implies; "snow" - a set of pictures, mainly taken in the French Alps, where snow is the predominant theme; "lost & found" - a collection of odds and ends of "found still life" and other quirky scenes.

my photography and philosophy

I am an enthusiastic fan of the medium of photography.  I also believe that we are incredibly fortunate to have an amazing and beautiful planet on which to live.  This combination of factors means that I get a tremendous kick from attempting to record the wonder of it all - from the tiny details in the petals of a flower to sweeping panoramic landscapes.

I hope you enjoy seeing my images.  I've certainly enjoyed creating them.
